The Woods Uncut

The Woods Uncut is the flagship series of Woods and Forests Media. Season 2 brings back the stars of the story—Ananias II, Junia, and Baldwin, three American Toads whose fierce rivalries shape a tense and unpredictable drama.

For the first time, the toads will encounter a new presence in The Woods. The looming encounter between the toads and The United Colony, a thriving population of Black Field Ants ruled by Queen Una. Housed separately yet destined to cross paths, the ants are both pets and feeders, setting the stage for a groundbreaking moment of interaction that has never before been documented in this enclosure.

The vivarium itself comes alive with native and naturalized plants under simulated weather events like fog storms, isolated thunderstorms, rain, windy days, cold and warm fronts, sunrises, sunsets, full moons, and even meteor showers.

Adding to the intrigue, this season also experiments with raising a native mushroom that may naturally defend the toads against parasites while fruiting inside the enclosure.

Filmed with a 24/7 security camera and immersive toad-eye perspectives POV camera, The Woods Uncut promises a season of rivalries, discoveries, unscripted nature, and the long-awaited first meeting between toads and ants —something you have never seen before.

Wild Vivariums

Wild Vivariums is a Woods and Forests Media original series that brings audiences into the living worlds of some of our most dynamic enclosures. More than just a look at animals, the show blends storytelling, care education, and conservation into one ongoing series that highlights the beauty and complexity of captive ecosystems.

The series follows several featured residents, including the Gray Army—three Eastern Gray Tree Frogs named Esperanza, Melania, and Dexter—as well as the Australian Tree Frogs, with White’s Tree Frogs Max and Jeremiah, and Green and Golden Bell Frogs Atlas, Clarus, and an unnamed companion. Amsi, the Southeastern Five-Lined Skink, joins them.

Other creatures are featured alongside the frogs. American Giant Millipedes and thriving carnivorous plants, such as the Purple Pitcher Plant, add to the story.

Wild Vivariums goes beyond simple updates. Episodes include feeding videos, product testing, care tutorials, and tips and tricks for keeping amphibians and invertebrates healthy and thriving. The series also features Critter Talks, educational presentations on unique animals and plants that have been recognized in local media and even earned grant support.

Frog Week

Frog Week is Pennsylvania’s premier six-month-long citizen science and conservation initiative, celebrating native frogs and toads while fostering public engagement in herpetology.

Now in its seventh year, the program focuses on species including the American toad, wood frog, gray tree frog, northern green frog, and pickerel frog.

How Frog Week Works

Frog Week is the result of a unique collaboration between PA Woods and Forests and Woods and Forests Media. PA Woods and Forests provides the field research, ecological monitoring, and conservation leadership that form the backbone of the project. This includes tracking wild populations of frogs and toads, conducting citizen science surveys, and documenting critical ecological discoveries across Pennsylvania.

Woods and Forests Media transforms this research into accessible, engaging storytelling. Through professional videography, aerial footage, photography, and digital media, the fieldwork is brought to life for audiences of all ages. Educational videos, interactive stories, and media campaigns share the mission of conservation while inspiring people to appreciate and protect amphibians in their own communities.

Together, the two branches combine science and storytelling to create a one-of-a-kind experience during Frog Week. PA Woods and Forests ensures the project stays rooted in conservation and research. At the same time, Woods and Forests Media amplifies the message, reaching thousands of people through social media, streaming platforms, and live events.

This partnership ensures that Frog Week is not only a celebration of frogs and toads but also a lasting movement that connects communities with nature and builds momentum for conservation action.
